- 06/21/2011> - During the last few months, STBC conducted a thorough financial analysis of each of its business units which resulted in the decision to close down two of its operations, Northwest Maritime Industrial and Siletz Technologies. Northwest Maritime Industrial had suffered from the downturn in the economy and the risky nature of doing business “on the water”. Efforts had been made to try to increase the sonar inspection part of the business to increase revenues and mitigate risk, but the analysis showed that this would not make the business profitable and the decision was made to stop operations.
Siletz Technologies was also in a phase where it needed to be subsidized to continue its operations. The financial analysis showed that Siletz Technologies needed to grow to 30 employees before it would begin generating any significant profits and would eventually have to expand to 50 to 80 people to be financially successful. The investment over the next year and a half to grow to 30 employees, along with some fairly risky factors, led to the decision to cease operations.
- 09/24/2010 - The first Siletz Tribal Business Forum was held as Hee Hee Illahee RV Resort in Salem. With representatives from the SBA and the State of Oregon Tribal Members learned about working with state and federal agencies to procure more business. This was the first business forums focusing on all different components of owning and operating a business specifically targeted toward Siletz Tribal Members.
